Description
A homemade pumpkin spice latte featuring a rich, spiced pumpkin syrup made with real pumpkin puree and fresh spices, offering a customizable and cost-effective alternative to coffee shop drinks.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (240g) 100% Pure Pumpkin Puree
- 1 cup (240ml) Water
- 1/2 cup (100g) Granulated Sugar
- 1/4 cup (60ml) Heavy Cream
- 2 teaspoons Pumpkin Pie Spice (or 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ginger, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/8 tsp cloves)
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup (240ml) Strong Brewed Coffee or 2 shots Espresso
- 1/2 cup (120ml) Milk (Whole, Oat, or Almond)
- Whipped Cream (Optional)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine water, sugar, and pumpkin puree. Whisk constantly until sugar is dissolved and mixture is smooth (3-4 minutes).
- Add heavy cream, pumpkin pie spice, and salt. Whisk to combine.
- Bring mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the syrup thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
- Remove from heat and let cool completely. Store in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to two weeks.
- Brew coffee using a strong method (e.g., French press or espresso).
- Heat and froth milk until hot and creamy.
- Add 2-3 tablespoons of homemade pumpkin syrup to a mug.
- Pour in hot coffee and stir to combine.
- Slowly pour frothed milk over the coffee, topping with foam.
- Garnish with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
Ensure the syrup is reduced properly to avoid a watery latte. Use fresh spices for best flavor. The syrup can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to two weeks or frozen for up to three months. For a dairy-free version, use coconut cream in the syrup and oat or almond milk for the latte.
